Sustainability is at the heart of what we do

Our journey towards a more sustainable future began decades ago. It is a path defined by constant refinement, from optimizing our manufacturing to pioneering materials like ultra-high-strength steel. By creating lighter constructions, we directly lower CO₂ emissions and reduce the overall environmental footprint of our products.

Within our factory, we have relied on renewable energy since 2014 to keep our core production climate-neutral, while we carefully monitor the impact of transport across our entire value chain. By prioritizing recycling and using non-toxic components, we ensure our legacy is built on transparency, reliability, and a lasting commitment to a responsible industry.

Ultra-high strength steel

Steel is at the core of the sustainable equipment solutions at Modul-System. It is the most recycled material worldwide and the material that can be recycled the greatest number of times whilst still retaining its properties. Our ultra-high strength steel provides incredibly light products, which help to minimise the weight of the vehicle, contributing to reduced fuel consumption and lower carbon dioxide emissions.

"According to our life cycle analysis, our biggest contribution to the environment, is that we work with the lightest materials available. This limits the impact that our solutions have on the environment as much as possible throughout the life of the vehicle."

David Mickelson, CEO of Modul-System.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Here you’ll find answers to common questions. If your question isn’t answered, feel free to contact us.

Sustainability

1. What materials does Modul-System use to reduce environmental impact?

We use lightweight, durable materials like aluminium, ultra-high-strength steel and polypropylene. Around 95% of the materials in our products are recyclable. We also comply with REACH and RoHS to ensure everything we use is safe and environmentally responsible.

2. How do lightweight products contribute to lower CO₂ emissions?

Reducing vehicle weight lowers fuel consumption and energy use, while also putting less strain on the vehicle. This helps fleets cut CO₂ emissions over the vehicle’s lifetime, all while maintaining a high payload capacity.

3. Are Modul-System products recyclable at end of life?

Yes. Most components can be separated and recycled, and we continuously increase the share of recyclable materials in our designs.

4. How long are the products designed to last?

Our systems are engineered for long service life, even in demanding environments. Durable products reduce the need for replacements, lowering both cost and environmental impact. We give a five year warranty on our products and as Modul-System products typically outlast the average five-year vehicle ownership, they are often reused in the next vehicles, extending product life and reducing waste.

5. Does Modul-System follow any environmental certifications or standards?

Yes. We are ISO 14001 certified, with lifecycle analyses guiding our sustainable practices.

6. How does installation affect vehicle fuel efficiency or emissions?

Our modular, lightweight systems helps maintain optimal fuel efficiency compared to heavier traditional solutions. Since 2004, we have been working to reduce the weight of our products in order to lower CO₂ emissions during vehicle use. In 2005, we introduced high-strength steel, and in 2013 ultra-high-strength steel, enabling lighter constructions with up to 40% reduced weight compared to traditional racking.

7. What steps are Modul-System taking to reduce emissions in manufacturing?

Since 2014 our Factory in Mullsjö is powered by renewable energy, except for a small portion of gas used in the paint shop. In 2022 we replaced all factory lighting with LEDs, reducing energy consumption by 27% and halving the number of fixtures in the warehouse.

8. Do the products help fleets meet sustainability targets?

Reduced weight, increased efficiency, and long product lifespan help fleets cut emissions, lower fuel costs, and meet tightening environmental requirements.

9. Can older systems be upgraded instead of replaced?

Yes. Our modular design allows components to be reused, reconfigured, or upgraded. This extends the lifespan of the system and reduces waste.
